英语当中有句谚语：Business is the salt of life.意思是说事业是人生的第一需要。可见“盐（salt）”不仅是人们日常生活中的必需品，在英文里还可以和其它单词联用形成一些特定用语，像这样由“salt”串成的成语还有不少呢。

　　1、Salt away储蓄

　　He salted away part of his wages each month.他每月把一部分工资储蓄起来。

　　2、worth one’s salt值得雇佣，称职

　　Not everyone in our factory is worth his salt.我们工厂里并非人人都称职。

　　3、rub salt into sb’s wounds在(某人)伤口撒盐（使某人痛上加痛）

　　4、Attic salt阿提卡的盐，指语言文雅诙谐

　　They are in the habit of speaking with Attic salt.他们习惯了讲文雅的俏皮话。

　　5、The salt of the earth直译为“世上的盐”，意思为社会中坚、人类精华
